About LMS

LMS is Ireland's first womens club team. We're based in Dublin, and train weekly throughout the year. In 2010 we finished 29th at the World Ultimate Club Championships, and won the inaugural Huck of the Irish women's tournament in Ireland. We are looking to build on these successes in 2011, and if you are an enthusiastic female player looking to compete and improve, we want to hear from you!

LMS March game, best one yet!!

Today saw 22 women take to the pitch in Albert College Park for LMS's monthly womens game! The sun shone, the pitch was in good condition (apart from being on a hill...) and 2 teams of 11 were picked. The focus of this game was defense. Each player was asked to have a goal in mind whether it be to take away the under or deep or to stop the break throw etc. The teams focus as a group was to communicate on Defense, up calls, left/right, help, take under, switch etc.
Offensively teams were asked to take risks and mix up the structures and plays being used to make defense work harder.
The teams were as follows:
Light                         Dark
Liz                             Heather
Yiv                            Sandy
Meagan                     Claire P
Fiona                         Lucy
Deirdre                      Finola
Louise                       Sinead
Jen                            Mandy
Grace                        Helen
Emily                         Shiv
Claire M                    Sj
Fi                              Sparky

Darks scored the first point quickly with a huck from Mandy to Sinead and began what was to be a tough and hardfought game. They continued this streak and worked hard for the next 3 points making it 4-0. Lights increased their intensity on defense forcing turns and getting possession. They got their first score which was followed by a further 2 well earned points bringing the score to 4-3. As both teams upped the intensity on defence points got longer and harder to convert. A score to darks, followed by a score to lights and then to darks making it 6-4 to darks. With the half coming at 8 darks set about scoring the next 2 points which wasn't easy with lights on defense. Dark took the half at 5-8 and both teams took a well deserved 5min breather.
The second half began with lights on offence. Darks started the second half how they began the first and after some impressive D they got possession. Sinead got the disc in front of the endzone and looked for Sandy when she threw the pass, the disc was too far in front for Sandy but was seen by the quick moving Iceni player Finola Shannon who layed out in the endzone to catch the first point of the second half. The catch set the standard high for the second half and lights picked up the pace with Fiona throwing to Jen for a score followed by Liz throwing to Fi bringing the score back to 9-7 to darks. It seemed that everytime one team was getting a few points the other team up their intensity to stop that flow of scores. After 2 scores from lights darks increased the pressure on D. Sinead marked last in the stack and preventing a number of hucks from being completed while Sj threw herself around the pitch in order to stop, intercept and D throws. The result of this was 3 scores in a row to darks giving them a good lead of 5 points. Lights scored the next point and points conitunued to be swapped until last point was called after an hour and and half of playing. Lights started on D, pressured darks on offence and forced a turn. Finola scored the finally point recieveing a lovely pass from Fiona to finish the game 13-10 to darks.

It was the best game and the best attendance we have had this season. A big thanks to all who came out and made a game of this standard possible. Also thanks to Buggy for filming it :) Hope to see as many at our next game in Cork, April 11th!!

Flag on your face!!!

LMS combined forces with Dub ultimate to paint the faces of Dublin on Wednesday. The day was a great success with craic go lór, random harrasing of people, especially those standing on their own and lots and lots of painting (paintings included shamrocks, flag on your face, pints of guinness, celtic crosses, snakes and sheep!). Having worked hard from 10.30 to 4pmish we made a tidy profit and finished the day with fish and chips and a well deserved pint.
A big big thanks to Liz for organising another successful fundraising event and also to all from LMS and Dub who came to paint faces and charm the crowd for the day. It was well worth it!!

LMS Bake Sale fundraiser

Last weekend saw LMS brave the elements and supply sweet and savory goods at womens and mixed intervarsities. With an amazing €5 "meal deal" consisting of a variety of pasta, tuna and cous cous salads, bread roll and meat or veggie sausages and a sweet treat (mars bar cake, biscuit cake, brownies, cupcakes, Lizs biscuits, cookies, Lamingtons etc) the food went down a storm!

The weekend proved to be a complete success making LMS a tidy profit of €400!!! This will greatly help the team with kit/transport/accommodation/player fees for the WUCC in Prague this summer. As a team of poor students/unemployed graduates WUCC would not be possible without financial inputs from fundraising so this is a great start to our fundraising campaign.

Firstly a big thanks to everyone who bought food from us over the weekend! It was greatly appreciated and we hope that you enjoyed the food and the weekend in Santry :)
Thanks to Ger for letting us sell food at the tournament and giving us the opportunity to fundraise.
Finally a big thanks to everyone on LMS who helped out, especially Liz and Cliodhna, it wouldn't have been possible without the efforts of both of ye!

Night out #2

After spending a day in the freezing cold selling cakes and buns a night out was definitely in order. I, Laura, took one for the team and made a good dint in our team whiskey...

The night moved swiftly on to "LMS cocktails" called Purple Flirts consisting of black sambuca and vodka, really not very nice, these then had to be washed down with whiskey sours and tequilla. Needless to say lots of alcohol was consumed which lead to lots and lots of dancing

All the single ladies, all the single ladies.....(Podge knew the dance!!)

Pre-season training, finally!

Having spent 6 grueling weeks completing our Foundation training (long runs, long intervals, core work) and another 6 weeks completing our Functional training in some of the coldest weather to hit Ireland in centuries, we have finally reached our Pre-season!! Woop woop!!

This will involve a lot more conditioning work using ladders, plyometrics, box drills and short but quick interval sessions. The intervals will focus on turning properly, moving your feet quickly from side-to-side and forward and backwards, the drills will include disc skills both throwing and catching while moving towards and away from the disc. Basically we are over the worst of the fitness and on to the more interesting stuff that can only be tackled with the horrible stuff done and dusted!

Plus the sun is shining, the days are getting longer, in now time we will be training again in the light of day!! Lots to look forward to :)
